3 Time Saving Hacks for Busy Moms

As busy moms, time can seem strained and very limited. Most days we are rushing to get ourselves, our kiddos and anything else out the door- on time. Can you relate? I surely can. As a work at home mom of 5, homeschooler and entrepreneur, I have spent a lot of time rushing, forgetting things or doing things that seemed to take much longer than they needed to. Some of the tasks were even unnecessary, but because I found myself feeling stressed and overwhelmed, I was spinning in circles and not fully accomplishing things on my to-do list.

I realized that the way I started my days and even the way I started my week, laid the foundation for how the rest of my time would unfold. These 3 time saving hacks, helped to change my daily and weekly routines, which saved more of my time and energy, and helped me to be more productive.

  1. Pre-plan the week before it starts. Of course this would be my first hack because let’s face it... I’m a planner mom and I love all things planning and organizing to help manage #MomLife. Seriously though, taking about an hour to plan out your tasks and daily schedule for the upcoming week, will save you precious time in the mornings and throughout the day. It also helps to decrease stress and saves your time and energy. So, instead of constantly stopping to see what you have to do next or potentially being unprepared for a task or even missing important appointments and events, pre-planning prepares you mentally to tackle your most important tasks as efficiently as possible.

  2. Prepare outfits for the week. Think about those busy mornings and all of the time we spend trying to decide what we are going to wear, sending the kiddos back to put on clothes that are more fit for the season or running out the door at the last minute wearing something you are tired of wearing or that just doesn’t feel good. This is where preparing your clothes for the week saves not just your time, but your sanity.

    To start, check the weather and your calendar, so you are aware of any special activities, weather changes, meetings, etc. Then you can plan what you will wear for the week. This can be as simple as moving those items to the front of your closet, mentally preparing and writing down what you will wear each day, or laying out the outfits in full for the entire week, for you and your kiddos. Knowing what you are going to wear, saves a ton of time in the mornings, giving you more freedom with your time and therefore, one less thing you will have to worry about.

  3. Menu plan and prep meals for the week. Meal Planning is one of my fave ways to organize my life! When you plan your menu and prep you meals for the week, it saves at least 60 - 90 minutes each evening, something I definitely prefer after a long day of work. You can plan all of your meals for each day- including snacks (which is my preference) or just the big meals, like dinners.

    Personally, I bulk cook two or three main ingredients and put together meals around that. For instance, each week I use my crock pot and make beans- black beans, red beans or chickpeas. This yields about 3 portions that I can use to make 3 different dishes (which are already planned). I also make a big pot of rice/quinoa, rinse and chop any veggies I may want to use during the week, and portion out snacks for my kiddos, so they can just grab and go.

These three hacks have saved me a ton of time each week and even reduced the morning “mom stress” I used to feel before my day had fully started. What are some ways you save time as a busy mom? Do you plan to try any of the hacks above into your daily routine?
